The Wonder Of Israel

The Wonder Of Israel

Israel is a nation that embodies the religious beliefs of the Christians, Muslims, and Jews. An Israel timeshare is one way to enjoy all of the sites this nation has to offer, many of them historical as well religious. Israel is a Mecca of interesting places to see and here are just a few of them we recommend while you stay in your Israel timeshare.

Crusader City
Located across from the Ahmed el-Jazzar Mosque in Akko is a place called Crusader City. This was once a massive complex that was occupied by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Most of the city, which was primarily excavated between 1955 and 1964, lies underground and there is question on how large it really is. Excavation stopped because some of the rooms that were discovered were located beneath the Citadel and the structures stability was endangered.

Ahmed el-Jazzar Mosque
Constructed on the site of the Crusader cathedral, the Ahmed el-Jazzar Mosque is the largest of Akkos four mosques and was built in 1781. The structures design is based on the old Ottoman styled mosques and the courtyard is accessible by a flight of steps that features a Rococo kiosk. Visitors will see the sarcophagi of Ahmed el-Jazzar and Suleiman Pasha inside the mosque as well as the beautiful blue, brown and white decorated interior.

The Wailing Wall
No visit to Israel is complete without stopping in Jerusalem and seeing the holiest Jewish site, the Wailing Wall. 52 yards long and 60 feet high, the wall is part of the retaining wall that makes up the southwest side of the Temple platform. The wall is so named for the laments of the Jews when the temple was destroyed. There is section of the wall that has been roped off and serves as a synagogue where religious ceremonies and swearing in of army recruits are performed today.

Church of the Holy Sepulcher
A large complex, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher actually includes numerous historical sites including the Chapel of Adam and the Stone of Unction where the body of Jesus Christ was laid and anointed after he was crucified. The Holy Sepulcher itself is located under the large Rotunda which was rebuilt by Kalfa Komnenos in 1808 after a fire destroyed the original. The tomb located here is believed to be the tomb in which Christ was buried when he was taken down from the cross.
