Visit Historic Hot Springs

Hot Springs, Arkansas, has a unique history and today this city is a popular destination for people looking to enjoy the many natural hot springs in the area. A Hot Springs timeshare will allow you to enjoy the 143 degree natural springs waters that come from the Ouachita Mountain range and it is a known fact that Native Americans have enjoyed the healing powers of the springs long before the white man came to the area. Hernando DeSoto was the first European to visit the area in 1541 and in 1822 the American government granted the entire area federal protection. Hot Springs still draws thousands of visitors each year, making a Hot Springs timeshare the perfect way to enjoy this city and what it has to offer.

The natural thermal springs that have given the city its name also found itself a hotbed of organized crime which included bootlegging and gambling between the late 1800s to the middle of the 1900s. Some of Americans most well known villainous names came to Hot Springs to enjoy the healing powers of the water as well as whatever else they could get away with. Long before the feud between the Hatfields and McCoys ever came to light, the Flynns and Dorans ran the city, constantly fighting for control of gaming rights in the city, even though gambling was illegal. Most of the citys governmental officials and law officers overlooked the gambling which was why it was a haven for the criminal element.

The city offered visitors Las Vegas amenities long before the city of Las Vegas was ever established. The first gangster to ever enjoy the city was Owney The Killer Madden, known today as The English Godfather. Madden was looking for a place to stay that was slower than New York Citys fast pace and even though he was a well-known gangster, he was well liked and respected in his second home of Hot Springs. While Madden enjoyed his new home, he eventually jumped into the local gambling scene and became involved with the famous Southern Club.

Other well known gangsters that visited Hot Springs during this time included Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Bugs Moran, and Frank Costello. What is interesting to note is that even though many of these gangsters rivals in their respected field visited the city at the same time, no violence ever broke out in the city while they were there. It was an unspoken truce that they would not go head to head with one another if they were vacationing in Hot Springs and no one single drop of blood was ever shed.

Today, one of the citys other main attractions the first being the natural thermal hot springs is the Gangster Museum. All gangster activity in the city was ended in the 1960s after a federal crackdown on what was known as the largest illegal gambling operation in the United States. Now a laid-back city that enjoys a good tourism trade Hot Springs is the home of the museum which is filled with things such as old roulette tables, slot machines, exhibits on Al Capone and Madden and an exhibit of weapons that were used during this time in American history.

A Hot Springs timeshare will also give you a great place to relax when you need a vacation away from cities and fast paced life. With plenty of beautiful scenery and places to soak you cares away, a Hot Springs timeshare is right for you.
